This resource offers a creative and fun way for children to engage with nature and storytelling. By designing their own spoon characters and going on a nature story walk, children can use their imagination to create their own stories. This activity covers aspects of the Arts and English language curriculum of the National Curriculum of Ireland, making it a great addition to classroom or home education. In addition to this resource, Hands-On Education provides a variety of engaging and educational activities for primary school-aged children. They cover most points of the national curriculum for Ireland, including topics like classical poetry. Their resources include videos, activity sheets, and easy-to-understand activity plans that can support children in their learning journey. To access these resources, you can create a free account on their website and start watching and downloading their exclusive educational material. With a wide range of subjects to choose from, you’ll be sure to find activities that will delight and engage your children or students. About Hands-On Education Each hands-on lesson (or activity plan) provides parents and teachers with all the information needed to undertake and complete each activity successfully. We fully outline every step of the way, from what materials you need, to how the final solution may look, covering everything in-between. A huge amount of research has gone into each lesson and much of the key information we pass on to you, as the educator to pass on to your child or classroom. Our method is one of ‘learning by doing’ making the activities open ended with no ‘correct’ outcomes at the end. Our priority is for children to enjoy their learning experiences and allowing for children of various ages to join in the activities. Many of our lessons take place outside and we encourage you to take advantage of locations in your local areas. We believe your child can learn about the world around them by exploring the world at their doorstep. The activity plans are all written with a single child in mind, they have not been developed purely for a home education or state school in mind. As they are developed to be quite flexible our intention is that they can be expanded to a two child household or a thirty child classroom with relative ease. Many of the activities are accompanied by supporting activity sheets (worksheets, timeline cards, etc…) and videos which you may choose to use alongside the lesson. We love books and recommend your local library as one of the best free resources available to you. Check out loads of books about the topic you are learning and spend time reading and looking through them together. In many topics we recommend books related to the activity or broader subject. We offer a full booklist that you may wish to checkout.

Poetry is an art form that surrounds us, often in ways we don’t even realize. From literature to music, it provides a unique perspective on the world around us. Developing an appreciation for poetry can benefit children’s reading and writing skills, and also contribute to their emotional development. There are a variety of related activities that can be done in both a classroom or at home setting. For example, you could create a themed scavenger hunt or treasure hunt to engage students in active learning. Alternatively, you could assign a group project where students work together to research and present on a relevant topic. Another option could be to have a class discussion or debate on a current event or issue related to your subject matter. Additionally, incorporating hands-on activities such as experiments or art projects can be a great way to reinforce concepts and keep students engaged. Poetry is an art that flows through our lives like a silent river. We often don’t even realize that we are listening to or repeating poetry, as it echoes through many songs, such as “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.” Developing a basic understanding and appreciation for poetry can prove to be a great building block for your child or student’s reading and writing journey in life. For Year One learners, there are six activities that can be used as the perfect introduction to classical poetry. The activities cover the core points of the English national for Year One, and they include videos, activity sheets, and easy-to-understand activity plans that support children in their learning journey. By using these resources, teachers and home educators can help their students discover the beauty of poetry and its relevance in our daily lives. Remember to check out the rest of the Year One topics to find more great curriculum standard activities for your classroom or home-educated children.
